Seeing Durham City Centre A-GLOW at Lumiere 2025

Durham Cathedral at Lumiere 2025

GLOW Creative was honoured to attend the preview evening of Lumiere 2025, the final ever edition of Durham’s light art biennial, to get a sneak peek of some of the unique art exhibitions on display across the city centre.

Hosted at Durham Town Hall and Radisson Blu Hotel Durham, supporters of Durham Lumiere were welcomed to take part in an exclusive guided tour of the main exhibits around Durham Cathedral, Durham Market Place, and Walkergate on Wednesday 12th November 2025.

Despite the drizzly weather, we were ecstatic to gain this glimpse behind the scenes of Lumiere 2025 and see these incredible pieces before the crowds descended onto Durham city centre.

Rhizome (Bobolito&Co), a tangle of illuminated cord spanning the entirety of the Market Place, reflects on both the complexity of natural networks and the way we build digital and social connections.

Durham Cathedral’s Palace Green was taken over by Elysium Garden (Jigantics), a supersized forest of giant flowers offering a kaleidoscopic profusion of colour, and providing a space for reflection, peace and wonder.

In the Cloisters, Solace (Amelia Kosminsky) captures the moment hundreds of handmade paper lanterns are released, and invites audiences to imagine the lanterns’ journey and, in turn, reflect and consider their own.

Point of (No) Return (Anastasia Isachsen) took over Millenium Place with an interactive light display that responds to your presence and movement: as you step into the light around this circular installation, luminous ice begins to melt into flowing water. Step back, and the ice refreezes.

After the tour around Durham, all attendees reconvened back at the Radisson Blu Durham for refreshments and informal networking opportunities with fellow supporters of Lumiere Durham 2025.

We would like to thank Durham County Council and Artichoke for this opportunity to be a part of the final edition of Durham Lumiere, and for their work in lighting up the city centre with stunning installations and community spirit. GLOW is proud to support Durham businesses, and it was a truly wonderful experience to see the city aglow.
